What is shaykovka air base?

Shaykovka Air Base is a former military airfield located 85 km southwest of Moscow, Russia. It was originally built in the 1930s as a training base for the Soviet Air Force.

During World War II, the airfield was used as a base for Soviet bomber and fighter squadrons, and it played a key role in the defense of Moscow.

After the war, the airfield was used primarily for training, and it housed various military aviation schools. In the 1990s, the Russian Air Force began to reduce its presence at Shaykovka, and the base was officially closed in 2005.

Today, the airfield is used for civilian aviation, including air shows and private flights. The runway has been expanded and modernized, and several hangars and support buildings remain intact. The former military barracks have been converted into apartments and office space.
